Yoxford was among the first villages in Suffolk to have its own particular sign, which stands by the A12. The name means 'the ford which could be passed by a yoke of oxen' - thus the sign has an ox standing in water, framed by horns. The creation of signs such as these reflecting the history or origin of communities is widespread today.
